Mission Diwali Celebration 09 (abridged) : The Community Diwali celebration which was organized by Mission Community Services Society in partnership with West Heights Inclusive Neighborhood (WHIN) Program and the West Heights Elementary School has strongly proved that District of Mission definitely needs a bigger Community Hall. Approximately 600-700 people enjoyed the celebration in the jam packed gym of the West Heights Elementary School and on the other side Indian food cooked by Mission Sikh Temple attracted a long line up for Samosas, rice and chick peas and colorful Jalebis. It was a carnival for children and their parents, seniors of all diverse communities having Diwali crafts, face painting and dances. Priest from Fraser Valley Hindu Cultural Society offered prayers to Godess Laxmi and the Mission Sikh Temple priest shared the meaning of Diwali. Men, Women and children enjoyed attractive door prizes. Among other volunteers form the school, Mission ECD Committee and WHIN program, it was for the first time that there were approximately 20 senior volunteers who helped in set-up, cooking and serving the food and overall organization of the event. The event was fully enjoyed by Mission dignitaries MP Randy Kamp, MLA Mark Dalton, Inspector Pat Walsh, Acting Mayor and the councilors Dany Placus and Terry Gidda. The event was organized in co-sponsored partnership with Multicultural Department of Mission Community Services Society, WHIN, West Heights Elementary School, Fraser Valley Child Development Society, Mission Library, Swing Opticals, Punjabi Patrika, Mission ECD Committee, Gaiapix photography and Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies. please find below some pictures in the link provided by GaiaPix.
